Proceeds from this year’s Legends Championship benefit Riley Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Foundation and Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health provide research, plus care and support of seriously ill and injured children and their families. As Indiana’s only nationally ranked and comprehensive children’s hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health has been offering compassionate care for children and their families since 1924.
One such beneficiary of care from Riley is Ashtyn Brown. Ashtyn battled acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) twice at Riley Hospital for Children. First diagnosed in 1999, Ashtyn endured two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy. Three years later the Richmond, Indiana native suffered a relapse. Round two consisted of another two-and-a-half years of chemo, radiation and a trial medication that proved to be a miracle drug. Ashtyn beat the odds. In 2010 Ashtyn was honored as a Riley Champion – an award that celebrates a Riley patient’s courage, strength and philanthropic heart.
Throughout the struggles in her young life, Ashtyn has become an avid golfer. Lettering in golf at Richmond High School, Ashtyn and her team carried the Red Devils to the 2009 and 2010 North Central Conference Championships, four sectional titles, two regional championships and a runner up finish at the 2008 Indiana High School Athletic Association State Championships. Her accolades continue. In 2011, Ashtyn represented Riley Hospital for Children as a Children’s Miracle Network ambassador and played in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic – the final stop on the PGA Tour. This summer, the University of Indianapolis golfer will share her journey at The Legends Championship benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.
