8 Ways to Get Around and Experience Fall

West Baden Springs Hotel in Fall

On your own two feet, on a set of wheels, even on horseback — there’s no wrong way to get around and see the sights this autumn.

We’re traveling into fall, so join us with 8 ways to get out and soak in these cooler days and vibrant colors….

Fall Walks at French Lick Springs HotelFall foliage is expected to put on a good quality show for us this season. A quiet stroll is perhaps the best way to take in all the brilliant vibrant hues. Walking the Ferguson Trail (it connects French Lick Springs Hotel and West Baden Springs Hotel) will log you about 2 miles round trip, and when the colors start to pop, you’ll hardly notice all those steps adding up.

Looking to unplug a little deeper into the woods? Take trails #2 and #3 to ramp up the challenge and get in upwards of 9 miles.

Feel the fall breeze on your face, smell the campfire, sink your teeth into a sweet treat, hear the leaves crackle under your feet, see all the sights of autumn in the countryside. This one satisfies all five senses. The Hayride, S’mores and Pumpkin Patch experience is all the best parts of fall bundled into a memorable afternoon — perfect for young and old alike.

Those crisp autumn mornings are best enjoyed at our stables. Guided horseback rides through the Hoosier National Forest beautifully set the mood for fall (better than a pumpkin spice latte ever could). For peak fall immersion, get there by taking the Stables Hiking Trail — it’s about 2 miles round trip from the self-parking area at West Baden Springs Hotel.

It’s looking like the prime leaf-peeping window will be around the last two weeks of October. In other words, the ideal time for a drive in the countryside. Take in the colorful landscaped by wandering country roads near the resort or venturing out for a day trip. Bledsoe Farms and Lark Ranch both have a ton of fall fun for families, and Fall Foliage Wine Cruises at Patoka Lake are great for a more grown-up escape.

Bike rentals still go for another few months, so while the outdoor conditions are just right, get outside for a ride. You can cover a lot of scenic ground and do so at your own pace. Choose your set of wheels: traditional bicycles, e-bikes and surrey carts for up to six riders are available.

Always a show-stopper. Plan ahead for your preferred ride: head out in the late afternoon to drink in that autumn sunshine, or get a late-evening time slot, bring a blanket from the trunk and enjoy the moonlight vibes.

Carriage rides, along with horseback rides and other resort activities, can now be booked online ahead of your visit at French Lick Springs Hotel and West Baden Springs Hotel.

On a typical day, The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort is stunning.

In the heart of fall, it looks like you stepped straight into a painted canvas.

Enjoy the fall color by playing a round, or simply taking the free resort shuttle up to the course to admire the panoramic views and colorful vistas with views for 40 miles. If you’re joining us for a round, target a weekday for the best availability.

Now this is the POV we wait all year for.

A ride on our rail trolley might be the easiest, no-fuss way to take in the fall scenery. Rides are free, so grab a good seat, sit back, relax and be treated to fall’s colorful palette.
